Aproximar conducted 5 in-person seminars in Portugal, with the collaboration with the Central Services of the Prison and Probation Services. The trainer responsible for the production and adaptation of the Curriculum provided training to other internal trainers, which helped facilitate the Seminars. They were delivered in different regions, and professionals came from all over mainland Portugal and from Açores to participate. Specifically, the following seminars took place:
1. Lisbon Prison, 02/12/2024.
2. Leira Youth Prison, 03/12/2024.
3. Santa Cruz do Bispo Male Prison, 11/12/2024.
4. Santa Cruz do Bispo Male Prison, 24/03/2025.
5. Lisbon Prison, 26/03/2025.
In total, 99 people participated in the seminars from 26 different prisons and 2 additional units, including Prison Directors and vice-directors, reeducation and reintegration officers, nurses, guards, doctors, psychologists, and interns, among others.
Seminars had a very positive satisfaction evaluation and impact. Knowledge about sexuality in general was increased, but with a greater focus on distinguishing between concepts and using the appropriate terminology. Furthermore, discussing these issues in the prison context led to greater awareness of the needs and challenges faced by these prisoners, as well as the sharing of strategies for better managing and treating them. The participatory methodology was highly valued by participants, promoting a positive environment where participants could clarify doubts without judgement and share practical cases. This and the fact the seminar focuses both on sexuality in general and in the prison context promoted significant learning regarding good practices, needs of LGBTIQ inmates and use of terminology related to sexuality.
